Anne Rice & The Vampire Books

Anne Rice

Remember ‘Interview with a vampire” The movie?

Well that was based one her first book of the series featuring the vampire “Lestat” and his adventures.

The movie was too bad but for casting Tom Cruise as “Lestat” was IMHO an abortion considering book character was 6 foot tall, Blue-eye, Frenchman and had a certain mood that “Tiny” Cruise just didn’t capture.

Brad Pitt was a far more believable companion as Louise, that mirror the book as to the torment of being a nocturnal killer yet feeling the torture of human conscious in not wanting a take life but knowing he must.

‘Queen of the damned’ was another movie spin off which did the book far more justice, ands so translated better than IWAV (“Intercourse With A Vibrator”) so I’d recommend anyone to see it if you like the vampire caricature and been living under a rock since it was released.

The Books – The Vampire Chronicles commencing with the “Interview with a Vampire” were a tour de force at first but teetered out to a very “piss poor” & pathetic end for many of her large and loyal fan base I thought, having read many fan remarks around the net.

Vampire Chronicles

Interview with the Vampire (1976) Book 1

The Vampire Lestat (1985) Book 2

The Queen of the Damned (1988) Book 3

The Tale of the Body Thief (1992) Book 4

Memnoch the Devil (1995) Book 5

The Vampire Armand (1998) Book 6

Merrick (2000) Book 7

Blood and Gold (2001) Book 8

Blackwood Farm (2002) Book 9

Blood Canticle (2003) Book 10 - Final!

Rice, has put the character to bed in a finally book – Blood Canticle”, which is just as well as she spun off the write about the life of Jesus and reading from her website I think she has lost the plot book-wise if not a tad personally if you read into her comments there, even mentioning her faith as a reason WHY she could NEVER go back to writing about Vampires!

The series "New Tales of the Vampires"

Pandora (1998)

Vittorio, the Vampire (1999)

It seems Rice has converted to Christianity, and IMHO it has filtered into her writing I believe, particularly in the last few books of the Chronicles, which was disappointing to many (according to blog comments) as it dwells far too much to the morals of Lestat, who after all IS a master vampire and stone-cold killer!

"The world changes, we do not, therein lies the irony that kills us."
